Prelude Training System Overview

 Prelude Training System Overview

Prelude Performance delivers the applied training system built on Dynamic Sensory Motor Integration (DSMI™) - the proprietary framework that explains how humans see, process, and act under changing demands.

DSMI™ is owned by DSMI Holdings, a company founded and wholly owned by Nicole Morris. Prelude Performance operates as the exclusive delivery platform for DSMI™ applications, translating the framework into structured, measurable training progressions across athletic, tactical, professional, and creative domains.

This structure reflects a deliberate decision: to protect the integrity of the framework while building the training system that makes it accessible and trainable at scale.

Our work translates a complex human-performance system into a clear, trainable progression that improves how people perceive their environment, make decisions, and execute under pressure. Whether the domain is athletic, tactical, professional, or creative, the underlying demands are the same: the environment shifts, the brain adapts, and performance depends on how quickly and accurately those adjustments occur.

DSMI Modes™

Every environment places a specific type of demand on how you perceive, process, and respond. DSMI Modes™ give that demand a name.

There are five Modes - Spatial, Timing, Precision, Reactive, and Efficiency. Each one describes what the environment is asking your system to solve right now. A field sport asks for spatial clarity and anticipation. A surgical procedure asks for precision and sustained focus. A combat exchange asks for reactive speed and adaptability. A long-distance effort asks for efficiency and rhythm.

You don’t choose your Mode. The environment does. What you can train is how well your system meets the demand when the Mode activates.

Spatial Mode

The environment demands clarity of space, distance, and positioning. Your system must read angles, track movement, and understand where everything is in relation to everything else.

Timing Mode

The environment demands alignment with unfolding time. Your system must anticipate, sequence, and arrive at the right moment - not early, not late.

Precision Mode

The environment demands exactness. Your system must control fine detail, minimize error, and hold stability under pressure.

Reactive Mode

The environment is unpredictable and fast. Your system must respond to movement and threat before conscious thought can catch up.

Efficiency Mode

The environment demands sustained output over time. Your system must regulate energy, maintain rhythm, and stay functional across the full duration of the task.

DSMI Performance States™

You don’t perform from a single fixed state. You shift - sometimes within a single moment.

DSMI Performance States™ describe your system’s internal condition: how well it is prepared to meet the demand the environment is placing on it right now. States are not emotions. They are not mindset. They are the structural readiness of your Eyes–Brain–Body system - and they are readable, trainable, and changeable.

There are three.

Baseline State

This is your system’s foundation. Not your best and not your worst - the stable, functional condition your system must maintain to perform consistently. Most performance happens here. When Baseline State erodes, everything that follows becomes unpredictable, often before anything dramatic occurs.

Best State

This is when your system is fully aligned with what the environment is asking. Intake is clean, interpretation is accurate, timing is effortless, movement feels connected. This is what people call flow, being locked in, or performing without thinking. It is not magic. It is your system operating at its highest available capacity.

Stress State

This is when the environment is asking for more than your system can currently provide. Stress State is not failure and it is not panic. It is a signal - the system communicating that the load has exceeded the capacity. When you know how to read it, Stress State becomes information rather than crisis.

You do not choose your State. Your system shifts based on the demands placed on it. What you can train is the capacity to recognize the shift - and influence what happens next.

How Prelude Trains

Most performance training starts with the physical. Prelude starts upstream.

Before a person can move with precision, they need to see clearly. Before they can decide quickly, they need to interpret accurately. Before they can execute under pressure, they need a system that can hold its function when the environment gets fast, complex, or unpredictable.

Prelude training is built around that sequence. We develop the capacities that govern performance at its source - not the output, but the architecture that produces it.

Every training progression develops five things:

Perceptual stability - the ability to maintain a clear, wide, accurate picture of the environment under load.

Processing efficiency - the ability to interpret what you see quickly enough to act on it before the moment closes.

Timing and coordination - the ability to arrive at the right moment, not early, not late, with the body ready to execute.

Decision-making under pressure - the ability to prioritize, predict, and choose when the environment is moving faster than deliberate thought allows.

Repeatable execution across environments - the ability to perform consistently not just in familiar conditions but in any environment the Mode demands.

The system is measurable at every stage. Progress is not a feeling. It is a change in how the system performs under load.

The Result

When the system is trained from the inside out, performance stops being inconsistent.

Not because the performer tries harder. Not because they believe more. Because the architecture underneath the performance has changed. The Eyes take in more. The Brain interprets faster. The Body executes what it receives instead of compensating for what it didn’t.

The result is a performer who understands why they perform the way they do - and knows how to influence it.

Scientifically grounded. Domain-agnostic. Repeatable and measurable. Built for the real world.

That is what DSMI™ makes possible. That is what Prelude delivers.
